New Coordinate Conversion Options

A new set of coordinate conversion tools were introduced in version 4.0 of GMS.  In version 5.0, we have enhanced these tools and made them easier to use.  The new options include the following:

Single Point Conversion

In some cases, it is useful to perform a coordinate transformation on a single set of xyz coordinates.  This can now be accomplished using the Single Point Transformation command in the Edit menu.  All of the standard global coordinate conversion options are supported.

New Coordinate Transformation Wizard

In order to simplify the sometimes confusing coordinate transformation process, we have designed a new Coordinate Transformation Wizard.  The new wizard presents each part of the coordinate transformation process in a simple, intuitive format.

Object by Object Conversion

In addition to transforming the entire project, it is now possible to transform objects (scatter point sets, boreholes, images, etc.) one at a time by right clicking on the object and selecting the Transform command in the resulting pop-up menu.  This brings up the Coordinate Conversion Wizard and the conversion is applied to the selected object only.

Simple Transformation Option

In some cases, it is necessary to perform a simple mathematical transformation on the model coordinates rather than a global coordinate transformation.  For example, it is often necessary to use a simple scaling operation to convert length units from feet to meters.  Or it may be necessary to perform a translate to change the origin of a local coordinate system.  To support such operations, we have implemented a new transformation option.  This procedure can be applied to the entire project or to individual objects.
